Origins of a Reflective Culture

Seigo Matsuoka Document

Seigo Matsuoka was born in Kyoto, 1944. In 1971, he founded the publishing house Kosakusha and launched the general interest magazine, “Yu”. In 1987, he established the Editorial Engineering Laboratory. Since then, he has been engaged in a research project which collects and examines Japanese and information culture. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo since 1996 and a professor at Tezukayama Gakuin University since 1998, and an alternative chairman at the public-private expert panel on creative industries; Counselor at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In 2000, he launched the Interactive System of Inter Scores (ISIS) Editing School on the internet. In the same year, he also embarked on a series of book reviews called “Senya Sensatsu-1000 nights 1000 books”, which is still ongoing. Since 2009, he has concentrated on producing the bookstore “Matsumaruhonpo”, inspired by the concept of “Senya Sensatsu”. Furthermore, he has published many books himself.
